French Translation Lead
Location: The Hague
Salary: 33,200 - 41,500 Euros per year, dependent upon experience

The language services department provides language and translation services to the whole of the organization to ensure that support is given in the IB’s languages to all external stakeholders including schools, teachers, examiners, governments, universities etc. The department also manages the translation of all the IB’s web platforms, including the public web site. The activities of the department ensuring the quality of documentation and publications for schools and the wider public has a direct impact on the reputation of the organization as a multilingual organization. The language services department is a global function and has a presence in several sites in the organization. This post will be located in the IB Global Centre in The Hague, in the Netherlands.

In addition, the French Translation Lead will:
• Revise the French translations of high profile IB texts, especially those of complex or sensitive nature to ensure translations are faithful to the original text and comply with language and IB- specific rules;
• Provide support and leadership to the French translators based in IB Global Centres to ensure they are supported on day to day issues and that urgent non planned work is allocated promptly;
• Monitor the availability and quality of human and material resources and allocate time accordingly to ensure the timely completion of French projects to an appropriate standard.

Main requirements
• University graduate with a qualification in translation (preferably at postgraduate level);
• Substantial experience as a translator/reviser, including significant in-house experience;
• Proven translation, editing and revising skills;
• Experience in team leadership desirable;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
• Able to set and meet deadlines under pressure;
• Fully IT literate, experience of language technology tools (CAT) desirable;
• Excellent command of the French language, as an educated native speaker;
• Excellent command of English;
• Aware of cultural and linguistic variations;
• Good knowledge of other languages, preferably Spanish.

Desirable
An accomplished linguist with extensive in-house experience, the French Translation Lead will have the final responsibility for all decisions regarding linguistic quality of French translations and the production of quality assurance tools such as house style and glossaries. The post holder will monitor the quality of work produced by internal and external linguists, providing training and mentoring as necessary.
