Internship – The Hague International Secretariat Internship – Brussels Advocacy Office


Closing Date: 2 March 2012 Start Date: March/April 2012


UNPO currently has openings for interns to work in our International Secretariat in The Hague and our European Advocacy Office in Brussels.


Interns are expected to undertake tasks that include the organization of conferences, seminars and other events, the monitoring of United Nations and European Parliament processes, conducting research on UNPO Members, website updating and other administrative tasks as needed.


Interns are expected to have a mature and flexible attitude, display good time management skills, be able to undertake work independently and conduct accurate research. The internship involves high expectations of the intern, but in turn promises an equally rewarding experience.


UNPO Internships are full-time for a minimum of four months. Starting dates are flexible but please note that we are unfortunately unable to provide any financial support for interns.



Requirements Project Assistant (Intern)

Essential: Genuine interest in and basic knowledge of minority rights, self-determination, indigenous peoples and human right Proven experience multitasking under tight deadlines, working under limited supervision and taking initiative Proven experience running short term, self-directed projects Fluent English (written and spoken) is required. Fluency in other languages, particularly Dutch, French or Spanish, would be an asse Excellent writing and research skills – academic and journalistic Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Full-time availability of minimum 4 months


Desirable Knowledge of Dutch government, particularly mechanisms for drawing attention to marginalized populations and human rights abuses Knowledge of the international structures available to assist oppressed or disadvantaged peoples, particularly the human rights mechanisms of the United Nations and the European Parliament Prior experience working in an international environment Working knowledge of other UN/EU languages and/or languages of our Members Experience in project proposal development and fundraising If you are interested in undertaking an internship at UNPO, please send an application in one email that includes the following four items: Cover Letter addressed to UNPO General Secretary Mr. Marino Busdachin
