Translator French
Salary: 31,200 - 39,000 Euros per year, dependent upon experience
The main purpose of this job is to undertake translation, revision and other language related activities in a variety of media to ensure the content of IB materials in French is faithful, accurate and of high quality, and that they are produced on time and to budget. Translators work within the language services teams in different sites and in inter-departmental project teams to undertake language activities and projects.
Translators also work with external linguists and consultants, and with IB staff from all core functions and most support functions in the organization.
Main requirements
Essential
• university degree
• qualification or certification in translation
• at least 2 years work experience as a full time translator or reviser, ideally in an in-house position
• proven translation, revising and editing skills
• mastery of French equivalent to that of an educated native speaker
• excellent command of English, to be able to interpret correctly and with minimal assistance complex texts
• high level of computer literacy
• good communication and organizational skills
• good analytical skills and excellent eye for detail
• able to work independently and proactively, and to meet deadlines
• knowledge about and sensitivity to international varieties of French
Desirable
• experience of using computer-assisted translation software
• working knowledge of a third language
• some experience in project management

The language services department provides language and translation services to the whole of the organization to ensure that support is given in the IB’s languages to all external stakeholders including schools, teachers, examiners, governments, universities etc. The department also manages the translation of all the IB’s web platforms, including the public web site.
The activities of the department ensuring the quality of documentation and publications for schools and the wider public has a direct impact on the reputation of the organization as a multilingual organization.
The language services department is a global function and has a presence in several sites in the organization. This post will be located in the IB Global Centre in The Hague.
