More and more people are staring up their own business. ING Bank reported around 39000 start-ups in the first quarter this year, an increase of 8%. The growth in the number of start-ups was particularly high in the transport sector. The number of registered taxi drivers increased almost fivefold. According to the bank this increase is in accordance with the simplification of the Taxi Act since January 1, and with the increasing popularity of the digital taxi company Uber, which works with independent retailers.

On average North Holland have the highest number of entrepreneurs. For each 10000 inhabitants, the province has 203 starters. The average in the Netherlands is 156.
