A job interview is often a more or less nerve wrecking experience that everyone has to go through. If only we knew what would happen and what kind of questions we can expect from the future employer, it might be easier. And more importantly, what would the best answers to those questions be? There are, however, some common questions that you can expect to be asked during your job interview.

1. What are your strengths? Remember, the employer is interested only in your qualities that are necessary for the job you are applying to. So make it sound realistic and honest. Take examples from your experience and explain the results you achieved with those strengths.

2. What are your weaknesses? The key here is sincerity. Do not try to cheat and to transform your weaknesses into advantages. Give your true weaknesses and explain what actions you are taking to improve them.

3. Tell us about yourself. It is not an invitation to tell of your hobbies or your life story. The idea behind this simple question is to get to know you better as a professional. Tell them about your experience, previous interesting tasks or projects you have done, etc., and only what is relevant to the future position.

4. Why should we hire you? Be prepared and have about 3 to 4 logical and reasonable points why you are the best candidate for this job position. It is not about saying how much you want this job, but more about how you would contribute to your employer and the new team.

5. What kind of salary do you expect? Be sure to prepare and do research in advance about what you can expect. If you ask for too low a salary, the new employer can question your value as a specialist.

6. Why did you leave your previous job or why are you looking for another job? Do not speak negatively about your former or current employer, or your work conditions. It makes you appear negative and not loyal. Try to lead the conversation to a positive direction, for instance, what new challenges you are interested in or what you can offer to the employer and the company.

7. Why exactly do you want this job? A perfect answer to this question should reveal 3 things: (1) that you are enthusiastic about your future job and your workplace; (2) that your experience and skills perfectly match the work requirements; (3) that you associate your career with this job.

Preparing for the questions, and having the confidence that you will develop, will bring you closer to success.
