The “Randstad” is a megalopolis located in the central-western part of the Netherlands, which consists of the four largest cities and certain areas located near them. These cities are Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht.

With an average population of 7.1 million (2008 study), the Randstad area is considered to be the ideal area for opportunities in the working field. The Randstad region is filled with both local and international companies, and also has a wide variety of different recruitment agencies (uitzendbureaus).

On finding a job in the Randstad area, getting help from these recruitment agencies would be a strong start. Certain agencies like Together Abroad, Kelly Services or Adecco tend to provide help in English as well as Dutch, which makes it easier for expats to find both local and international companies to work in. When comparing the rest of the Netherlands to the Randstad area with regards to finding jobs, the Randstad area tends to offer both blue and white-collar type of jobs.

Apart from getting in touch with recruitment agencies, there are other ways to find vacancies. Major newspapers such as the Telegraaf or ad.nl tend to post English-speaking job vacancies. Another alternative would be to find job fairs. There are different job fairs that often take place across the Randstad area. For example, The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area tends to hold job fairs that offer job seekers the opportunity to find potential positions to work in. Most of these job fairs also offer English-speaking jobs.

For expats finding a job in the Netherlands, focusing on finding one in the Randstad area is always a better option when compared to the rest of the Netherlands, since there are more English language jobs. This also applies to other European languages.
