Export of child benefit and child budget to be discontinued by 2015.

The House of Representatives has approved the bill to stop the exportation of child benefit and child budget to countries outside the European Union. This takes effect from the 1st of January 2015. A transitional period of 6 months will apply to parents receiving this kind of support. Please click here to read more.
For those who may be unfamiliar with the difference between the child benefit and the Child budget, some clarification is shown below:

Child Benefit (Kinderbijslag)
If you live or work in the Netherlands and have children younger than 18, regardless of your salary range you are eligible to receive the Child benefit from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB). The Child benefit is paid to all parents of children below the age of 18 who live or work in The Netherlands to help finance the cost of bringing up children.
The Child benefit payment is made quarterly via direct transfer into the recipients bank account. The amount paid is not income based but rather it is dependent on the age of the child, number of children the recipient has, and if there are any special needs. The amount of child benefit received depends on the age of the child. It increases when the child turns 6 and increases further when the child turns 12.

Child Budget (Kindgebonden)
In addition to the Child benefit, the child budget is a contribution made by the government to low income families. A child budget helps the parent to cover part of the cost of bringing up children under 18 and if eligible, it is received in addition to child benefit payments.
The child budget is income dependent. If your income is less than € 28,897.00 per year and you have children under the age of 18, then you are likely to be eligible for the maximum amount of child-related payment.
It is not generally required to apply for the child budget payments. You will automatically receive payment notification if you qualify for child budget from the Dutch Tax Office. However, if you think you are eligible and you have not yet been notified by the appropriate body, you would do well to contact the tax office..
