INTERVIEW WITH RAY PARKER FOUNDER AND MANAGING DIRECTOR OF MADISON PARKER INTERNATIONAL
SERVICE AND QUALITY: A COMMITMENT TO A SIMPLE SET OF VALUES.
This year Madison Parker International, global recruitment consultants based in Voorburg, celebrate their ten year anniversary. We spoke to Ray Parker, founder and Managing Director about the changes in the industry since he started the business in 2002 and his thoughts on what the future holds for the company.
What motivated you to set up Madison Parker?
It had always been an ambition to have my own business and although I had previously experienced two start-up situations I found myself at the right time and place to realise this goal even though the global economies were reeling from the effects of 9/11.

THE NETHERLANDS’ COUNCIL OF STATE URGES RECONSIDERATION OF DUAL

The Dutch government’s Council of State criticized plans to end dual nationality for both Dutch expats and immigrants to the Netherlands. While 1.1 million of the country’s 16.7 million citizens have two nationalities, political leaders are planning to force Dutch natives to give up their citizenship if they relocate to another country and their passports in the process. They’re also seeking to stop new residents of the Netherlands from keeping their original nationalities if they opt to become Dutch citizens.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT A LABOUR CONTRACT

The labour agreement describes the relation between an employer and an employee.
An agreement needs to comply with three requirements for it to be a labour agreement:
the employee himself carries out work for the employer;
the employer pays the employee for the work carried out;
there is an authority relationship between the employer and the employee.
A labour agreement may be arranged either in writing or verbally. However, it is wise to have a labour agreement in writing. There are some advantages to having the labour agreement in writing because a number of rights and duties are then recorded.

THE OCCASSIONAL DOWNFALLS OF A BUMPY JOB HUNT By Catalina Barzescu
Adapting a Dutch expression, I can definitely say that ‘banen liggen niet voor het oprapen’, which translates into ‘jobs don’t lie for plucking’. Especially now, during the financial crisis, and in most cases even more if you are a foreigner, it is difficult to find suitable work. What I also witnessed during a couple of extremely crowded career fairs is that a lot of people are at the moment looking for work. So I guess I’m not the only one…

AN UNSOLICITED JOB INTERVIEW AND A TRICKY QUESTION By Laura Pardo
Since I started looking for a job in The Netherlands I have been developing a keen interest in listening to the experiences of friends and acquaintances related to job interviews for positions in Dutch or Netherlands based companies. As an expat I’m very attentive to grasp the nuances of the culture I’m now living in and somehow I find that these job interview stories would give some insight of the Dutch working environment and business culture. In addition, they might be someday a point of reference if finding myself in a similar situation...

Kirsten Jansen - van den Broek Undutchables
We have worked with Together Abroad as advertisers since their inception in 2009.
During this time, we have found them to be very responsive to our needs and very pleasant people to work with.
I would certainly recommend them as reliable and responsive business partners with an eye to the market and having their fingers on the pulse of the Dutch employment sector.
Ray Paker - Madison Parker International
I have known Linda since the inception of Together Abroad and have always been impressed by her passion for the world of internationals and the energy and drive they have invested in their business.
She have built an important portal for the international community in the Netherlands providing information, trainings and job opportunities to this group.
The job board is an important resource to Adams and gives us greater exposure to the jobs we advertise and an additional source of candidates.
