TOGETHER ABROAD JOB BOARD NEWS WEEK 17, 2012

First World Happiness Report launched at the United Nations
The happiest countries in the world are all in Northern Europe (Denmark, Norway, Finland, Netherlands). Their average life evaluation score is 7.6 on a 0-to-10 scale. The least happy countries are all poor countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (Togo, Benin, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone) with average life evaluation scores of 3.4. But it is not just wealth that makes people happy: Political freedom, strong social networks and an absence of corruption are together more important than income in explaining well-being differences between the top and bottom countries.

AMSTERDAM – Every employee should automatically be offered the right to a permanent contract after having worked for the same employer for a year, according to the FNV.
The trade union stated so last Wednesday preceding the hearing on flexible labour and security in the Dutch Lower Chamber. The FNV, who so far mainly focussed its efforts on employees working with permanent contracts, is now looking to improve the position of flex workers.

Queen's Night/ Day activities 2012
Queen's Day festivities invite locals and up to 800,000 visitors alike to soak up Amsterdam's open-air fun. In the streets, canals, parks and everywhere in between, the city is bursting with orange as Amsterdammers enjoy the biggest street party of the year. Amidst orange-pride, live music, DJs, parties and a citywide flea market, you'll find an electric atmosphere not to be missed.
The first Konninginnedag (Queen's Day) was celebrated on 31 August 1885, in honour of the birth of Queen Wilhelmina. After her daughter Juliana succeeded to the throne in 1949, the day was changed to 30 April in accordance with the new Queen's birthday.
Today, Queen's Day is still celebrated on 30 April as the Netherlands' current monarch, Queen Beatrix, chose to retain the day in honour of her mother. You'll be treated to a sea of orange as everyone - and their pet - is covered head to toe in oranje (orange) as a show of pride for the Dutch Royal family, the House of Orange-Nassau.

DIARY ENTRY NO. 2 Looking for a job? Internships always offered!

Have you notice how relatively easy is for a recent graduate to get an internship in The Netherlands, in comparison to how hard is to find a JOB (yes in capital letters, just to emphasize the distinction)? At least that is the impression that I have after months of drifting thought the finding-a-job process. I don’t restrict my job searching to job listing websites and recruitment agencies, I also visit companies’ websites because is very common that they have their own vacancy page where you can find job posts that are not anywhere else advertized.

We started with just posting our jobs on their job board, and throughout the years our cooperation has grown into a valuable partnership.
Since last year Together Abroad present their workshop “How to find a job in The Netherlands” also at the 4 Undutchables offices to our candidates. We are happy to be able to provide such great and reliable service to our candidates.
And we look forward to continue our fruitful cooperation in the future.
Kirsten Jansen - van den Broek Undutchables
We have worked with Together Abroad as advertisers since their inception in 2009.
During this time, we have found them to be very responsive to our needs and very pleasant people to work with.
I would certainly recommend them as reliable and responsive business partners with an eye to the market and having their fingers on the pulse of the Dutch employment sector.
Ray Paker - Madison Parker International
I have known Linda since the inception of Together Abroad and have always been impressed by her passion for the world of internationals and the energy and drive they have invested in their business.
She have built an important portal for the international community in the Netherlands providing information, trainings and job opportunities to this group.
The job board is an important resource to Adams and gives us greater exposure to the jobs we advertise and an additional source of candidates.
