Together Abroad had a chat recently with Rene Ahuja of Rexus Consulting Ltd.
Rene is currently the Director of Rexus Consulting Ltd. He has over 15 years’ worth of experience in the Information Technology Sector and his company is focused on career transformation and they support to individuals of varying backgrounds and competencies who will like to explore a career in Information technology.
Please see below excerpts from our conversation:

• Hello René, welcome and thank you for taking the time to speak with us. Can you tell our Audience about Rexus consulting and how your company can help them manage and progress their careers?

Rexus consulting is highly involved in career transformation. We focus on leveraging our candidates existing skillsets and mapping them to a suitable path within the information technology world.

Within the remit of information technology, there are many roles that exist. Roles such as Business development, Sales, Marketing and Legal. Rexus consulting is able to map existing skill sets that may be a particular strength to our candidate and utilise them where they could be most useful in the Information Technology industry.
We do this through a unique set of steps which we call The Six Step Program. This program is for candidates who would like to progress their careers. It is also useful for candidates who are dissatisfied with their in their current career and may require a whole change of career.
Through the six step, we are able to offer a fast track option to achieve their desired goal of career change or career progression.

• Do your candidates have to have a background in IT or can you work with individuals from other functions?

We can work with any candidate regardless of their background. The unique element about what we do is that we take any candidate from any background and we map their existing skill sets to suitable roles in the field of IT. We have successfully migrated a number of people from very different backgrounds such as sales, marketing, and architecture to suitable roles in IT. Even now we have people from the legal and medical profession who are currently crossing over into the world of IT.
It is important to note that the myth surrounding one having to be a programmer or a technical person to work in IT is simply not valid. Every function has an IT element involved.
Individuals usually have existing skill sets that they are not aware of and it’s in the remit of Rexus Consulting to ensure that we bring to the fore these value added skills and competencies for the candidate even when they cannot see it in themselves.

• What is your perception of the job market in The Netherlands? Is it expanding or contracting?

From the IT perspective, it is expanding. The global job market expereinced trying times over the last number of years but in recent times, it has been fairly steady and we see a lot of growth in the coming years especially in the IT sector.
If you look at the number of roles available in Dutch versus English it would be certainly be different, however the IT job market is growing and in certain areas of information technology, we simply do not have enough qualified people to meet the demands or to fill the open jobs.
In the next 5 years, the most growth will come for people with some key skills such as strong communication skills, team focus, and the ability to work with different stakeholders. Roles such as Business Analyst roles will continue to grow. Project Management roles were on the decline but we see those roles starting to pick up again.
I believe the growth of social media will continue to support such roles in the years ahead.

• Rexus Consulting has a workshop holding tomorrow, Tuesday the 5th of August and it is for everyone regardless of their career background. Can you tell us more about it?

The main focus of the workshop is career transformation.

For an expat moving to the Netherlands, getting the right direction is very important. It's important that one knows which steps and direction to take. Linda is an exceptionally talent counselor, her advice has helped me land a job within a week of coming to the Netherlands. I am grateful for her mentoring and look forward to a great working relationship in the future.

Dr. Hrishiraj S | Clinical Research & Affairs Manager

Together Abroad provided expert advice on personal branding including developing a top-notch, market-aware CV, highly tailored job applications, and approach strategies with potential employers in the Netherlands. Furthermore, I found them be highly knowledgeable in key related fields such as recruitment strategy, immigration law, contracts, labor agreements, and (un)employment benefits. I would recommend Together Abroad to anyone who needs professional help with transitioning to a new career.

A. Aboufirass | Structural Engeer

Linda is a big mind. She thinks about things that the rest normally overlook. The insight she has about the dutch job market can only be achieved through years of experience and persistence.

Her business savvy is complemented by her mastery of understanding the client's needs and requirements. For my career I could say, she was the “Mary Poppins”, who guided me through thick and thin and helped me to land a career in the Netherlands

S. Bhattacharjee | FP&A Manager

If you are going to enlist the services of a "Career Coach" look no further. The only person you want in your corner is Linda van Orsouw. As an expat, you absolutely want to work with a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional who knows their way around the Dutch career/employment/job market. Linda assisted me in writing and positioning my CV, helped me organize and prioritize my list of opportunities, coached me through mock interviews and was there when I got offered a senior position only 2 months later. When asked I will only refer to Linda and "Togetherabroad".
