The success of Together Abroad – The Nr. 1 Job Board for Internationals lies with its founder Linda van Orsouw-Groener. The driving force working incessantly behind the scenes and in the limelight. As a part-time colleague, I have the privilege of getting to know them and their vision. And I have a first-hand look at the impressive work they do and the many people and organisations they help.

The platform is a wealth of accessible knowledge for expats living in the Netherlands, or planning to do so. It is not only an online job board, but also a launch pad for recruitment services and training. And to add to that, it also has up-to-date News about the Dutch economy, recruitment trends, HR analysis, and Tips for Candidates that includes CV writing, job searching, personal branding, and much more. It truly is a unique platform in that it is comprehensive in all that has to do with work from either the candidate’s side, or the recruiter’s side, but it does not attempt to be more than that. You will not find information about outings, museums, hotels and what not, because there is a tight focus on the goal — if you want...

Personal branding is becoming more and more important to make yourself stand out from the crowd during the recruitment process. It's important to realise that whether you have worked on your brand is irrelevant: \a brand is just the impressions you make combined with the reputation you've set for yourself. As such, It's important to make that brand work for you. If you're new to designing a personal brand, here are three tips to help you on your way.

Authenticity

People want to know that you are real: so avoid trying to fool others into seeing you in a different light. The goal of a personal brand is not to hide who you are, but to highlight your best qualities. Lying about this may work in the short term, but given enough time the truth of your character will always come to the surface. Therefore, your brand has to be truthful, and authentic to yourself. It must revolve arounf you core values, the skills you've gained, and your background. Your ability to look at yourself critically helps a lot here. Think to yourself, what can I use to describe me? How would others describe me? What kind of varience is...

Learning a language is never easy, and it can certainly take a lot of time, effort, and energy to master a second or third language. However, a second language is a skill that can seriously help when searching for a job, moving up through the ranks at work, and especially in day to day activities. We talked with Albert Both, who created Talencoach. Dedicated to teaching motivated and inspired students Dutch, Albert showed us a real desire and passion for language that I, personally, have never seen before.

What kind of struggle is experienced by your students when learning Dutch?

If you'd like to learn Dutch, then there are many struggles. Learning a new language is always a challenge. Most people are too optimistic and tend to underestimate the effort that it really takes. They think that you can learn it after work, when you already feel tired, spending only one hour per week.

There are a couple of other things that are massively important. First of all, you need absolute clarity. You can never really learn things that you do not understand. Simply repeating dialogues from a CD never works. You have to understand a system and it works...

Getting into a career in another country can be difficult at the best of times. Sometimes, all that is needed is some guidance and counseling. We were able to speak with Sacha Tanis-Hopkins, founder and career coach for Expart. Expart specialise in career coaching for expats, with the focus highlighted on helping expats find the career opportunities that best suit them. I asked Sacha a series of questions, with the aim to learn more about how expats can be helped and what what her clients look for with the Expart service.
Your company mainly focuses towards expatriates. Have you seen any changes to the demand for your service over the last year, and do you expect anything to happen which will change this in 2016?

“I did experience a change in my business. At first, I mainly had requests from expat partners, because this was my main focus group in the past. This group moves abroad because of their partners job. During the last year I got more expatriate clients, people already living in The Netherlands and looking for a new position or a career change. Besides this group, I also get more requests from clients still living outside The...

For an expat moving to the Netherlands, getting the right direction is very important. It's important that one knows which steps and direction to take. Linda is an exceptionally talent counselor, her advice has helped me land a job within a week of coming to the Netherlands. I am grateful for her mentoring and look forward to a great working relationship in the future.

Dr. Hrishiraj S | Clinical Research & Affairs Manager

Together Abroad provided expert advice on personal branding including developing a top-notch, market-aware CV, highly tailored job applications, and approach strategies with potential employers in the Netherlands. Furthermore, I found them be highly knowledgeable in key related fields such as recruitment strategy, immigration law, contracts, labor agreements, and (un)employment benefits. I would recommend Together Abroad to anyone who needs professional help with transitioning to a new career.

A. Aboufirass | Structural Engeer

Linda is a big mind. She thinks about things that the rest normally overlook. The insight she has about the dutch job market can only be achieved through years of experience and persistence.

Her business savvy is complemented by her mastery of understanding the client's needs and requirements. For my career I could say, she was the “Mary Poppins”, who guided me through thick and thin and helped me to land a career in the Netherlands

S. Bhattacharjee | FP&A Manager

If you are going to enlist the services of a "Career Coach" look no further. The only person you want in your corner is Linda van Orsouw. As an expat, you absolutely want to work with a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional who knows their way around the Dutch career/employment/job market. Linda assisted me in writing and positioning my CV, helped me organize and prioritize my list of opportunities, coached me through mock interviews and was there when I got offered a senior position only 2 months later. When asked I will only refer to Linda and "Togetherabroad".
