The municipality of The Hague injects 68 million euros into the economy with the purpose of stimulating and tackling the unemployment rate of more than 17% of the city.

According to telegraaf.nl, 25 million of the total amount goes to small and medium sized enterprises and 12 million are used for youth unemployment. The mayor and aldermen announced this on Monday 23 March 2015.

The council claims: “Renewal is needed as The Hague’s labour market does not benefit sufficiently from the nation-wide, slight economic rebound.” The aim of this is to make more people capable of living without welfare benefits and give the people in precarious situations more opportunities to become employed. The municipality says: “Actions need to be taken in order to create 3000 jobs. Partners from economy, education and research institutions are deeply involved in implementing these plans.”
