5 Tips for Jobseekers to Stay Positive

  1. I will find  A job.
Make this your daily affirmation. It’s easy to complain about how few opportunities are out there, but in the long run your mood and energy will suffer if you only focus on the scarcity of chances. It is better to think in a manner that allows room for failure in order to try over and over again.
  2. I am qualified for the position.
It’s a different story if the position is for someone who speaks German and French, when you speak neither. But if you read the description and think you can do the job, then definitely give it a try. Unfortunately many jobseekers stop at the skills section and obsess over the points that think they cannot fulfill. Cultivate your trust in your abilities and focus on what you can do. You will find out that what you see as lack of skills and drawbacks can be overcome with a learning-friendly attitude and a bit more confidence in your abilities.
  3. I will make a great first impression.
First impressions do matter, whether meeting in person or introducing yourself through an e-mail. You might be looking for a job, but never forget that you are already a professional. Reflect this in your writing style and in how you present yourself.
  4. I can find a job through networking.
Networking can get you miles. Don’t expect your contacts to find you a job, though. Be proactive and get in touch before you need a reference for example. Let your network know about what kind of positions you are looking for and do the thinking for them. It will pay in the long run.
  5. I will land my DREAM job.
Perhaps placements are scarce, but you don’t have to compromise. Show your best self and you can work your way to your dream job. It does take patience and effective planning. It might take a long time to get there but rather than complaining about how difficult it is, do not stop yourself from pursuing what you really want. With a positive mindset you will be prepared for the challenges you face on your way to the top.
