The number of jobs for employees and self-employed people grew by 53 thousand in the second quarter compared with the first quarter of 2017. On average, 10.2 million jobs were posted in the second quarter. All jobs are counted, full-time and part-time. That is what the CBS reports.

The fact that there are more jobs is explained by the continued growth of the economy. The average daily production of Dutch industry was almost 4% higher in August 2017 than in August 2016. For almost two years, industry has produced more than in the same period a year earlier.

More open vacancies

The number of jobs has now grown for three years in a row. Over the last three quarters, more than 50 thousand jobs were added. As a result, the increase compared with the second quarter of 2016 is more than 200 thousand.

The increase in vacancies was 20 thousand, which is the largest amount after the third quarter of 2006. Over the last four years, the number of vacancies grew quarterly. At the end of June, there were 204,000 vacancies available, more than twice as many as four years earlier, when the number reached the lowest level (91 thousand vacancies by the end of June 2013).

Less unemployed

In August, there were 426 thousand people without work who claimed to have recently searched for work and to be immediately available for that. This is unemployment according to the definition of the International Labor Organization (ILO).

On average, their number decreased in the last three months by 10 thousand a month. The number of unemployed corresponds to 4.7% of the working population.

Turnover of business sector continues to rise

In the second quarter of 2017, employment agencies, labor brokers and payroll companies have 2% more credit than in the quarter before. This increase is higher than in the previous quarter. The total number of outsourcing hours increased by more than 4%. This is the largest increase after the first quarter of 2007.
