Starting from April 1st 2016, new rules apply to maternity leave regarding twins and multiple births cases.
Women who are pregnant with twins or multiple babies, and whose due date falls on or after May 26th 2016, may start their maternity leave earlier.
According to the new rules, the pregnancy leave may begin between ten to eight weeks prior to the due date. Nowadays a woman can determine herself the first day of her leave. If she prefers to follow the ‘usual’ pregnancy leave, which starts six to four weeks before the due date, she can chose for this option as well.
More information about the scheme and application for maternity benefit is available on the UWV website.
