The Chinese pharmaceutical company Tong Ren Tang, global leader in traditional Chinese medicine, opened its European headquarters in The Hague on 27 August. Later this year Tong Ren Tang (TRT) will also open a flagship store in The Hague where customers will be introduced to treatments such as acupuncture, massages and traditional Chinese medicine according to the company’s ancient principles dating back 2,000 years.

The Chinese company decided in favour of The Hague after contact with the WestHolland Foreign Investment Agency (WFIA) and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA). The intention to invest in The Hague was confirmed in a letter of intent during Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s trade mission to China earlier this year.

TRT founded in 1669, is a household name in China and holds a leading position with more than 1,000 traditional Chinese pharmacies worldwide.

Tong Ren Tang CEO Ding Yongling stressed the importance of the international character of the city of The Hague. ‘A large Chinese community is present in The Hague for whom Tong Ren Tang is a renowned brand. The presence of this community has contributed to the city’s interest in traditional Chinese medicine.’

TRT will become the majority shareholder in the PuDu Health Center on the Amsterdamse Veerkade in The Hague. A traditional Chinese pharmacy will open there in October, selling TRT products.
