Frequently asked questions

Long-term care leave (langdurig zorgverlof)

If an employee is caring for their partner, child or parent who has a life-threatening illness, they are entitled to long-term care leave, given that the life of the person concerned is at a serious risk over a short term. Employees are allowed to take a long-term care leave for a period of up to twelve weeks every year, during which time they can reduce the number of working hours to no less than half of normal. Wages are not paid to the employee for the number of hours they utilise for long-term care leave.
